Never tell an auto dealer you have a trade in before you have agreed on the price of the new vehicle. Tell the dealer you are interested in trading your old vehicle at the end of the transaction.
Never divulge information about your financing. Tell the dealer you have financing already arranged, they will view you as a "cash" buyer, thus making the price of the new vehicle the primary bargaining point. Call your credit union to get pre-approved for your loan.
Know the wholesale book on your trade-in before entering a car lot. Your Credit Union loan officer or Jim can help you get that information.
